Dear Friends of the TAMUK Trombone Studio,
Greetings! My name is Oscar Diaz and I am the Associate Professor of Trombone at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, and I would like to invite you and your students to attend our first ever annual Trombone Day on Saturday, May 13th, 2017. We are pleased to announce that our guest artists will be the Trombones de Costa Rica!! They are an exciting trombone quartet that focuses their music on Latin American culture. I am certain that it will be an enjoyable experience for both you and your students.
The first annual “Día del Trombón” will be held on the campus of Texas A&M University-Kingsville inside Jones Auditorium adjacent to our Bellamah Music Building. Those in attendance will be able to participate in a group warmup session alongside their peers, students from other schools, and 35 members of our very own TAMUK Trombone Studio. In addition, attendees will be able to play in a mass trombone choir reading session following the warmup class, and exhibitors will be available onsite for students wishing to purchase music and related materials. The Trombones de Costa Rica will also be hosting a masterclass open to all in attendance. For the Trombones de Costa Rica masterclass, directors must RSVP to myself if they would like a student ensemble from their school to perform and get critiqued by TCR. I am sure that slots will fill up quick. Also, a Q&A session will be hosted by myself and some of our more experienced members for those who may have any questions concerning a career in music as well as having a discussion and a video made by our students on “a day in the life of a music major.”
To conclude the event, our evening concert will feature many talented groups. The full TAMUK Trombone Choir, our awarding winning South Texas Trombone Sound Trombone Octet, a preselected octet comprised of talented high school trombonists and of course, our special guests, The Trombones de Costa Rica!
We are very excited to be hosting this exciting event, and I hope to see you and your students here! If you are planning to attend please RSVP via email to myself. I hope to make this the largest trombone event in the state!
Attached is a poster for the trombone day as well as a schedule of events for the day. Please do not hesitate to call or email if you have any questions.
