Here is the judging list for the HS Region Audition.  The audition is Saturday, November 22, 2008 at Edinburg HS.  The directors meeting will be at 8:00 AM; audition will start at 9:00 AM.

Here is the judging list for the MS Mariachi Region Audition.  The audition is Monday, November 24, 2008 at Valley View HS.  The directors meeting will be at 4:00 PM; audition will start at 5:00 PM.

Here is the judging list for the HS Pre-Area Audition.  The audition is Saturday, December 6, 2008 at Edinburg North HS.  The directors meeting will be at 8:00 AM; audition will start at 9:00 AM.

There is currently a proposal for our Region to add a 3rd Middle School All-Region Band.

There TMEA software allows for two different scoring methods.  The 3rd group could be a true third group, where the 1st & 2nd groups remain unchanged and we just add more kids after the 2nd group.  The other way would be to alternate the 2nd and 3rd groups’ rankings.  This would give us a 1st band, and 2 second bands.  The rankings would be assigned as such: after the first band fills up, every other student is assigned 2nd, then third band.

Here are PDF files of last year’s Middle School audition results with both methods calculated.  Each PDF file has all instruments.  These numbers duplicate the 2nd band for the 3rd band’s instrumentation.

Obviously, there are other things to consider.  Here are some things to discuss:

• Cost of a 3rd clinician, while entries remain the same.
• Cost of feeding three bands at the Friday night clinic
• Rehearsal space for three groups (all three bands getting a chance to rehearse on stage)
• Cost of patches for three bands
• What kind of experience will students in the 3rd band have
• Look at where your kids came out in last years’ results - what do you think of where they would be with three bands

Dear Band and Orchestra Directors:

With your permission, representatives from Southern Music Co. will be in Regions 14,15 and 28 on four dates in December.
The following is our tenative schedule:

Dec. 1st - Calallen HS from 4:30 - 9:00 PM
Dec. 2nd - UT-Brownsville   4:00 -    “     ”
Dec 4th - Laredo, at the University 4:00 - 9:00 PM
We will be bringing UIL Solos and Ensembles for band, orchestra. Also we will have a broad selection of UIL Concert, Jazz Ensemble materials and program music for your Christmas and Spring concerts.  If there is any particular items you would like for us to bring please give me a call at 1-800-284-5443.

PLEASE, pass this information on to your HS, MS Band, Orch., and students.
